Hadrian's wall walk "what are ewes lookin at"

HADRIAN'S WALL WALK FOR CIERAN AND THE MENINGITIS TRUST 2012.

I have decided to add my own spin on this little adventure we had whilst walking the length of Hadrians wall from wall's end in Newcastle to The Kings arms, Bowness on Solway. It will be honest and true, sometimes funny, sometimes even a little sad but I hope that you enjoy reading it and for those who were with me may it evoke some great memories. For those who were not there I hope you get the magnitude of the challenge and the strong family we became in those 6 days. My grammar and spelling is not the best but I make no apologies for that (it was the spellcheckers fault) and at times this Blog WILL CONTAIN SOME STRONG LANGUAGE! and a bit of nudity. Also some bad taste jokes that were knocking around group in our week together. if you are easily offended then don't read on you have been warned.

IN THE BEGINNING......

So I have known Gary P (Sluggie) for 8 or 9 years now we met at CP events and our first meeting was less than harmonious. we were both tired and there was some confusion which ended with an angry head through a small car window and some naughty words. but all was sorted some time later. the rest of the guy's who walked and supported us I have known from between 2 and 8 years through working the CP event's and although I had not been introduced to a couple of the guy's before they either new me or I had seen them around. I guess the CP years are another blog all together ;)

Gary is the main organiser of this event as it was his idea and if there is anyone to blame it is him (WANKER). He came to me with this idea and initially I wasn't going to be taking part I just gave my blessing as the money raised from this event was to help my son Cieran get some new leg's and the thing's he need's to live a normal life after losing both of his leg's to meningitis (for more info on Cieran please visit his web site here).

Earlier this year Gary emailed me to remind me that the event was happening in October and asking me for a few details. it was at this point that myself and Gemma decided to do the walk with them as it was a great challenge and we wanted to give our support in person and be there with them. unfortunately Gemma had to drop out (Pregzilla) but I decided that I would stick with it and made my  arrangements accordingly (WANKER).

The day soon arrived and I found myself somehow sitting on a train platform waiting for my train to Newcastle city center and as I sat there looking at my mountain of kit I thought to myself, "Hey I thought Gemma was giving me a lift to Newcastle"? a few hours later and I arrived in Newcastle (via Manchester) and hopped into a taxi. I dont know wether anyone else does this but I always try to make out that I have been the the city/town that I am being driven in just so the taxi driver doesn't rip me off! I also tried to drop in a few "toon" sounding words for good effect but sadly began to sound like a lost south african with a speech impediment and mental "issues". still the 7 mile journey only cost me £16!!!!!!!! (WANKER). I rocked up to the hotel and found Sluggie and Drew and after being spin doctored I ended up in a room with sluggie somehow but to be honest it was Great because i snore he snores but i never heard him and as far as i know i never disturbed him so it was all good (plus his skin is so soft and warm and he has an impressive acorn, it was a small room).

I will post day 1, walking starts. tomorrow...........

"hello operator!.....give me the number for 911!C

hello hello, much has happened since the last post but most of it unrepeatable on this blog ha!
had fun fun fun as it was Cieran's birthday so organised cover for a couple of days but didn't tell Gemma or the kid's and just turned up on Thursday morning and knocked on the door, i was then cordially greeted by a very surprised Gembops who instantly burst into tears and was a complete emotional explosion. didn't really know what to do at that point and even though Cieran wasn't at the door i decided to break the sadness with another rendition of happy birthday (minus the balloons), i seem to be singing that alot just lately.

i was completely creamed as i had just finished 12 hours of night shift and then driven the 3 hours to home from work so grabbed a couple of hours down time before the guest's arrived and it was great to see everyone but i didn't remember saying i would stand and cook food and pour drinks all day oh well! Cieran was in good form with his funny quotes as per usual the best one being "everybody can you all please listen?!........HAS ANYONE SEEN MY BALL'S?!" he was referring to the ones out of his game and to be honest being only six years old didn't really get what every body was hysterically laughing at.

really good to see big bear and his new girl Donna was kind of them to travel up just for cieran's birthday although i know Mr Egan was dissapointed that the evening didn't end with a "bowl full of room key's" but it was good never the less.

it is good to write these thing's down, i suppose a memory recorded is one never forgotten. and with that in mind i decided to privately start a diary or memoir if you like of the funnier thing's that have happened on some of the job's i have worked. obviously names and certain deed's would be left out as I'm not planning to publish anything but when i sat back and remembered some of the situations i have been in i have physically laughed out loud i think the one that made me decide to write them down was this one.

it was the first time i had looked after this particular client and all was going great, a few surprises but no drama's. we had gone into an Indian restaurant that we happened to pass as the client was taking a walk. it was a lovely place quite up market and pricey. everything was fine the client and his guest's were chatting relaxing and having a dink and some food when the Indian owner came over to see if everything was OK and of course get a little close to the client, then the Indian guy's wife came over in full traditional dress complete with bindi (spot on her head) and the client calls her over to him. he complements her and Tell's her how beautiful she looks and that he loves her bindi, then he Say's"i used to go out with a girl who had a bindi you know!" "oh really!" the Indian lady answers, "yes really she had a bindi just like yours, and one night i rubbed it off and it said I'd won a Mercedes!". at that point the Indian lady kind of staggered backwards with shock then did a little laugh and walked off. i was trying my hardest to not laugh but my eye's were filling up and i thought i would explode right there and then. but through the tears i was planning our sharp exit just in case the husband wanted to "express his displeasure" but all was cool and we left having tipped heavily and all was forgiven......

that's all for now stay safe thanks for reading.

ty ty ty and for my next trick.........

well after spending much time trawling through a friend's blog and really liking what i read i decided to start my own, those of you who don't know me can treat me as a god until the truth emerges and you all realise that's actually not true, and those who do know me .....shhhhh! :o).

don't really know where im to start so i guess i will start on yesterday and maybe in future blog's recall some memorable stuff form the past.(or be too bone idle to do that and stick with the up to date stuff). had a weird day yesterday really, changeover shift from nights to day's which always leaves me exhausted but on top of that it was stevie b's birthday and the team and i went across to churchill hospital's oncology ward (Steve has a brain tumour)for a surprise party for him. it was a bitter sweet occasion as it's really beginning to show just how poorly he is now, hard to believe he was working along side of us just a couple of months ago. i really wanted to greet him with a complete piss take of his situation, as we always did with each other but i could tell as soon as i walked in that he was struggling to grasp who we were let alone deal with the sarcasm we usually threw back and too to each other and everyone else to be honest.

it was great to see so many people there for him and i know i felt a little awkward but i relaxed after a while, plus, i took my camera  with me and took lot's of photo's which took my mind of the sadness of it all. to top it all off we got playing silly games with balloons which climaxed with me stuffing two up my top and then giving steve a very unconvincing rendition of Marilyn monroe's "happy birthday Mr president"! but it made us all laugh and ended the night on a high. i guess i got that piss take in after all.
